Upon entering the game there will be barrels around Bruce's ship that, upon interacting, will open a menu where you can choose several classes. Each of these have unique items and also act as a roleplay archetype for that round. Unless it is a special mission, you can only choose one class per round. It is best to choose a class after you hear what you are doing that round from Bruce.
Considered the best go-to class for those starting out do Dwarves v. Zombies.

A multi-hit AoE melee class used to soften up groups of enemies with their weapon.
Be careful though as the trade off for this is lesser damage on a single enemy.

Combining the standard Shovel and Runeblade the Gravedigger is useful for making quick trenches and paths without having to switch items.
As it's namesake implies you can bury the body of your comrades by right clicking on them with the weapon.

Using the power of ancient dwarven technology, these Dwarves use flamethrowers to burn away groups of enemies.

Also keep an eye on them as they tend to build shrines to the beings the give them their power.

After placing their Workbench, jump on the Juice Block it makes. When the container below is full, right-click it to make a Jimmy Juice.

Scientists do not start with Jimmy Juice.
A defense centered class, the High Paladin goes to where the battle is thickest with enemies to protect fellow Dwarves around them with their mighty shield. Be careful as every hit on the shield will lower your ability to hold it and you will have to wait to use it again if you run out of meter.

There are various weapons given to several of the classes, while you start out with one, you can obtain other weapons later in the round and still use them regardless of the class you chose at the beginning.
Your standard sword given to Dwarves, that has the abillity to proc when the horn is blown. It is obtained through certain starting classes, blacksmithing, or it is somtimes found in supply camps.
A large hammer that upon hitting and enemy will cause an AoE damage effect. It is obtained through certain starting classes and blacksmithing. Has a Grand Paladin Order varient that deals more damage.
Your standard bow that shoots an arrow. That is until you get your archery deploma. Once you get your deploma you will be able to fire 3 arrows simotaniously. To get arrows you will need to craft them by holding out your bow and left clicking, they will stack up to 24 arrows.
The crossbow functions largly like the bow with the exceptions being it will always shoot 3 arrows and you can store your shot for later use.
An old dwarven invention that was rediscovered. Requiring oil as its fuel source it spuews fire in a rapid but short range in front of you. Be careful not to lite your fellow Jimmy on fire (or not).
A shovel that has been fashened into a weapon. Right click on a player corpse to bury it.
This bow allows you to shoot torches to light up an area far away from you.
A single shot revolver. You only have the ammo from selecting the gunslinger class and blacksmithing.
Some classes are just given tools instead of a weapon. While they may seem unimportant at first there may be a use for them in a round you may not expect.
Obtained through starting class or a supply camp. Used to cut down trees for wood. Can also be thrown with right click at enemies to damage them.
Holding or placing down the torch will allow you to see in the darkness. The torch can be made by right clicking sticks in oil or it is obtained in certain starting classes.
A modified Flamethrower made to shoot a foam that cleanses the ground of Corruption. Certain Starting classes begin with a foamer, or a scientist may modify a flamethrower into one.
A Bottle of Foam contains a small amount of the foam that is used to cleanse the ground of Corruption.
This large banner allows you to fling mobs away from you and your fellow dwarves. Mainly used for crowd control as it does not deal much damage.
This is a large shield that will protect you and your fellow dwarves around you from mobs. Be careful as you can only block their attacks for a period of time before you have to regain stamina.
You will inevitably take get hurt at some point. In order to heal these injuries we have a potion called Jimmy Juice. Simply left click or switch over to the potion to heal. You can also drink the potion for a one time healing boost. Be careful as over using the potion causes it to have diminishing effects for that round.
Used for the Gunslingers' Revolver, it can be obtained from blacksmithing or choosing the Gunslinger Class.
Crafting Station are a building that get automatically built when you place down it's corrisponding block. Be careful as once you place it you can't get it back.
A Piston that, when 50 gold nuggets are used on, will make a block that, once refined enough though mining it, will make a weapon or piece of armor.
A Sawmill that is used to mill wood into planks, then bowls, and then sticks. Cobblestone or Blackstone can be use on it to make stairs and sequentially slabs. Simply right click the blades with the item you want to mill in main hand.
Upon setting up the Juicer one will have to jump on the juice block in order for the juice to fall out and into the collector where the Jimmy Juice is made and given out to Dwarves.
Upon setting up the Oven and placing Cobblestone inside of it. The Baker will have to right click the gold plate to start the oven, then once more to bake the Cobblestone into cake or cookies.
Every once in a while you may notice a red and black blob or substance on the ground. This is called corruption and is a disease that will turn you into a zombie if it makes contact with you. Using a Foamer or Bottle of Foam will get rid of the corruption on the ground. There is currently no way of curing Corruption once it as entered your body.
Death is inevitable in Dwarves vs Zombies. But do not worry as there are still a few ways for you to still play.
Upon death, you will be transported to a holding room. Here you will get to choose between one of your other characters, a Rat, a Jimmy or a Zombie.
If you choose to become another character you will get your items back and respawn at either the shrine or the ship. You can do this up to three times. When you run out you will have to become a Jimmy.
Choosing the rat will have you spawn near the shine invisible and have you run away for a few moments before you scamper on the ground.
Choosing Jimmy will have you respawn your stuff however you will be given the skin and name of Jimmy. When there are a noticeable amount of Jimmies on the battlefield chances are the Old Man will call retreat.
Choosing Zombie will have you join the undead as a zombie against the dwarves.
